Raina is honored to be a special guest of the Denver Comic Con (DCC) this year! She will be doing signings and panels throughout the weekend. DCC is a 3-day, family-friendly pop culture fan extravaganza, and a program of the Colorado nonprofit Pop Culture Classroom, whose mission is to inspire a love of learning, to increase literacy, celebrate diversity and build community through pop culture education. The proceeds from this annual event benefit Pop Culture Classroom’s overall educational endeavors.

Tough Talk: How to Engage Students in Difficult Conversations Using Graphic Novels

Today’s world is full of contradictions and conflict, making for plenty of tough conversations in the classroom. In this panel, we will discuss how educators can use both classic and contemporary graphic novels as a tool to build more knowledge, engagement and critical thinking around a wide variety of current issues/topics. Attendees will leave the panel with a better understanding of how to support “tough talk” in their classrooms. Panelists: Raina Telgemeier, Michael Gianfrancesco, Tracy Edmunds, Katie Monnin
